How Moving Into a Tiny Home with a Big Garden Changed My Life

A few months ago, I made a choice that changed everything: I moved into a tiny home – just one room – with a spacious, sun-drenched garden. What seemed like a compromise at first turned out to be one of the most liberating and grounding decisions I’ve ever made.

For years, I lived in “normal” apartments — two or three rooms, closets full of clothes I rarely wore, drawers filled with random things, and shelves overflowing with memories that had quietly lost their relevance. My life was buried beneath stuff – and slowly, I began to feel like I couldn’t breathe.

That’s when I stumbled across the idea of minimalism. The minimalist lifestyle spoke to a longing I couldn’t quite name: the need to clear the noise, to make space- not just in my home but also in my mind.

When I found this one-room home with a wild, beautiful garden, something inside me said yes. I was terrified. Where would I put all my things? But then a different question arose: Why do I even have so many things?

Downsizing to a small home became more than a physical move — it was a conscious shift in mindset. I began sorting through my belongings with fresh eyes. I asked myself: Does this item truly serve me? Does it bring me joy? Does it support the life I want to live now?

Letting go was hard. But with every item I donated, sold, or passed on — I felt lighter. Freer. More aligned with who I really am.

And then I moved in.
Suddenly, everything was simpler.
Everything I owned had a purpose.
Cleaning took ten minutes.
I stopped buying things I didn’t need — because there was no room to hide them.

And most importantly: I felt at home. Not just inside the space, but inside myself.

This is what simple living really means to me.
It’s not about deprivation — it’s about clarity.
It’s not about sacrifice — it’s about intention.

Living in a tiny home forces you to be honest. There’s nowhere to shove clutter. You live in direct relationship with your surroundings. There’s a rhythm to it. A sense of presence.

And that garden? That’s the magic.
It gives me room to breathe, to read, to write, to share tea with friends or just sit and feel the breeze. The contrast between a small interior and a wide open green space brings balance – between simplicity and freedom, shelter and expansion.

People ask me if I miss anything.
Honestly? I miss the noise, the rush, the stress – not at all.
I don’t feel like I gave something up. I feel like I made space for something better.

Because when we choose minimalism, we’re not just choosing less — we’re making room for more of what matters.
More peace.
More presence.
More connection.

So if you’re feeling overwhelmed by life, or buried under stuff – ask yourself: What would it feel like to let go?
To live lighter?
To live smaller… and freer?

For me, this small home is the biggest gift I’ve given myself.

Because in this one little room, with the sky above and soil beneath my feet —
I found space to live, to breathe, and to just be.
